Playroom Adventures

Playroom Adventures, originally uploaded by My Blog Images.

On Saturday I shot a Portrait Session for a family of three in Southampton. They wanted a modern, high key look.

It is always a real challenge working with young children, but we got some great results. The images are now ready to view in the client area.

More shots from the shoot to follow on my blog soon.

Photoshop actions. Love them or hate them.

Love them or hate them, there is no denying their value.

Photographers are often split down the middle with Photoshop, but use it well and it can be a fantastic tool. I use a number of actions that really add to the images I take.

Over the past few years I have built up quite a collection of actions, but find that I only use a select few.

Here are a few recommendations:

Nicole Van. She has some excellent actions, my favourites are the 'colour pop' which work well in both natural and studio light. It adds a real kick to the image, great for that modern high key look.

Childish David. He has a beautiful collection of sepia actions, and an awesome colour punch action.

Martas Actions. Her 'eyes like marbles' action is a must for all portrait images. Use it subtly and you can transform the eyes in an image. She also has some excellent B&W actions.

Photoshop can be easily overused, use it correctly and you will add so much to your work.

Couldn't resist uploading another image from the shoot. This is 5 month old Reuben.

Dribble

Dribble, originally uploaded by Ben Goode.

Yesterday I did a photoshoot for a couple and their 5 month old son in Lymington.

They recently had a session with Venture, but like most found their prices too expensive. They were after a similar style - high key, and not your traditional pose and cheese.

The shoot took an hour and a half, and we got some superb results! The entire shoot should be available to view in the client area in the next day or two.

Advanced Photoshop Magazine

Advanced Photoshop Magazine have just published an article on Ben Goode, a photographer/designer from Australia. In the article they've put my web address under his name. They assumed bengoode.com was the same Ben Goode.

Great news for me as I now get international exposure, and hopefully lots of traffic.

Photobooks

Photobooks, originally uploaded by Ben Goode.

This is a photobook I ordered for a recent client photoshoot. I ordered the book from Photobox, and was very impressed with the quality.

26 pages for just £22.99! The cover has a really nice feature, a cut away that reveals and image below.

It's been a while since my last post. Life has been a little hectic lately. Get keys to our new apartment on Monday. Just preparing now for a photoshoot tomorrow. We're going for a modern 'venture' look. Shots will follow shortly.

Mac Screen Calibration

For months I've been trying to calibrate the screen on my Mac, and I've just cracked it! I recently did a shoot on a black backdrop, on my monitor I couldn't see the creases and highlights on the backdrop. However when I viewed the images on another monitor I could see them everywhere.

I tried to calibrate the monitor by going to System Preferences > Displays > Colour. This varied the colour slightly but I needed to adjust the contrast somehow. I looked online and downloaded various calibration apps, none of them did the job.

Tonight by chance I clicked System Preferences > Universal Access and saw an option for Enhance Contrast. I dropped the slide bar right down to normal. Problem solved. After reading on so many forums saying you cannot adjust the screen contrast on a Mac I found a way :).

Crayon Physics

Crayon Physics Deluxe from Petri Purho on Vimeo.

I was sent a link to this great little game today. I watched the video once or twice, I thought it was so brilliant. I found the track playing over in my head. The track is called Lullaby by Ghost, it has been released under Creative Commons. Click here if you want to download it.

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary, originally uploaded by Ben Goode.

The second shoot was for a surprise 25th Wedding Anniversary party for Mr and Mrs Broadbent, organised by their son James (right).

The light was a little dim, but I held back from using the flash. The results with natural light (okay it was night) are so much nicer, you don't get the harsh shadows. I was shooting at f/2.8, ISO 800 and shutter speed was at 100.

I only captured natural moments, fly-on-the-wall style. The photographs carry so much more meaning than the stereotypical formal posed shot.

The photos will soon be available to view in the client area. If you wish to view the photos in the client area please email me at ben@bengoode.com.

Poppy

I had two photoshoots today. The first was with 6 week old Poppy Fifield. She was adorable. This is one of my favourites from the shoot. The photos will be available to view in the client area shortly.

London Camera Exchange did a great job cleaning the sensor :)

Sensor!

Sensor!, originally uploaded by Ben Goode.

I wrote a few posts back saying how bad my camera sensor was getting. I took a few shots on the ferry crossing over to Belfast; it had got even worse. View this shot large to see how bad it is!

I dropped it into London Camera Exchange in Southampton today, it's not really usable in it's current state. Pick it up on Friday, just in time for a shoot on Saturday evening.

The shot was taken about half an hour into our journey from Birkenhead. There were hundreds of wind turbines standing in the sea, they're alien shapes made great silhouettes amongst the organic landscape.
